About dr. gimbel
Dr. Gimbel grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. He spent his undergraduate years at Cornell University, graduating with honors in 1991. He completed medical school at Duke University School of Medicine followed by training at University of Pittsburgh and UCLA. He lives in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with his wife and two children. He enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, and playing clawhammer banjo.
Dr. Gimbel serves as the Chief of the University of Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery section at Magee-Womens Hospital. He also served for 14 years as program director for the Microsurgery fellowship. In addition to providing expert care to patients, Dr. Gimbel also performs novel research in breast reconstruction outcomes, general plastic surgery outcomes, and development of cutting edge blood flow monitoring systems. He performs surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital. |
philosophy
Some patients arrive in the plastic surgeon's office by choice, while many others arrive by necessity. Dr. Gimbel understands the different reasons why people decide to undergo surgery. He works hard to alleviate anxiety and promote understanding of the options and procedures available to patients. He feels that everyone should have a basic understanding of their treatment and realistic expectations of results.
Training
Dr. Gimbel attended Duke University School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina, receiving his M.D. degree in 1995. He then completed residency training in General Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. During his residency he dedicated an additional three years to research at the University or California - San Francisco Wound Healing Laboratory with his mentor Dr Thomas K. Hunt, a world renowned leader in wound repair and regeneration.
After residency, Dr. Gimbel pursued Plastic Surgery training and an additional year of Microsurgery training at the University of California - Los Angeles. He then returned to Pittsburgh to join the faculty at the University of Pittsburgh Department of Plastic Surgery in 2006. He is a board-certified plastic surgeon from the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
